Testing of materials, components or assemblies are a critical aspect in any industry sector, be it for construction, petrochemical, engineering, manufacturing or fabrication. It is through testing that the performance, reliability, durability, etc. of any matter can be ascertained. Non Destructive Testing (NDT) is one of the efficient methods of evaluating and inspecting materials, components or assemblies for discontinuities or locate changes in material characteristics without affecting the future usefulness of the matter being tested.
The advantages gained by using the NDT method far outweigh other known testing methods. It’s efficient and accurate results have made it one of the most commonly used methods across various industry sectors in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah and other emirates of the UAE.
Types of Non Destructive Testing methods
The selection of a testing method is dependent on the type of matter that is to be tested and its application. There are numerous methods of NDT and the most commonly used ones include:
- Vacuum Box Testing
- Visual Testing(VT)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Radiographic Testing
- Positive Material Identification
- Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
- Liquid Penetrant Test (LPT)
- Holiday Testing
- Magnetic Flux Leakage(MFL)

Laboratory Testing
Interface Technical Inspection opened its Metallurgical / Mechanical Testing Laboratory in 2009 to serve all the needs of the Middle Eastern Region.
Routine Mechanical Testing
Mechanical testing is vital to many industries, it provides validation of their material, ensures quality products are manufactured and that all specific compliances are met.
Routine Metallurgical Testing
Metallurgical testing services provided below are vital for many industries so they can identify heat treatment processes, material grade and manufacturing techniques.
Corrosion Testing
With corrosion a major problem for pipelines and drilling applications in the region due to the Hydrogen Sulphide gas exposure, it is vitally important to assess materials for their susceptibility to corrosive attacks.
Chemical Analysis
To support our in-house testing we offer a comprehensive chemical analysis of metals using OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy).
Onsite Testing
Often it is impossible to move certain components for testing; these situations are covered by the onsite testing services.
Mechanical Testing Lab
Interface Technical Inspection provides a comprehensive range of metallurgical and mechanical testing services with a dedicated machine shop to provide specimen preparation.
Charpy Impact Test
The Charpy impact test, also known as the Charpy v-notch test, is a standardized high strain- rate test which determines the amount of energy absorbed by a material during fracture.
Fully Equipped Machine Shop
The laboratory has a dedicated workshop that prepares samples required to be tested, as per Codes &Standards (ASTM, BS).
Metallurgical Analysis
Interface is equipped with state of the art microscopes and micro specimen preparation equipment.
Chemical Analysis
To support our in-house testing, we offer a comprehensive chemical analysis of metals using OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy). The energy of the spark causes the electrons in the sample to emit light which is converted into a spectral pattern. By measuring the intensity of the peaks in this spectrum, the OES analysers can produce qualitative and quantitative metal analysis of the material composition with uncompromising accuracy. This testing is particularly important to ensure that material grades meet the supplying specification.
- OES Chemical Analysis (NIST Verified) – ASTM E415
Vacuum Box Testing
Vacuum box testing is a non destructive testing to find the leakage spots of weld seams. A vacuum box connected with a compressor air source to provide a vacuum field on area of interest. Bubbles from the detergent solution applied on the test part shall provide the visibility of the leakage area. Applicability of this test method is mainly on the annular plate welds of Storage tanks, duck plating of the Ships and Barges etc.
Corrosion monitoring is a process to measure the rate of corrosion in Plant running static equipments, Process piping system, Material transporting pipe lines and Marine structures, etc. Determination of corrode locations alarms the integrity of the assets and helps to understand the level of corrosion and subsequent wall loss which may result in an ultimate destruction.
Portable Hardness Test
‘Hardness’ is defined as, the ability to resist the indentation since it is considered as one of the property of a material. Measuring technique of the hardness value with a portable hardness tester is an advanced method by using rebound technique.
Interface Technical Inspection maintains an integrity management system as a continued inspection plan for the integrity of the assets of our valued clients. So that, the early detection of any fatal issues would become possible. Such issues may cause either absolute or partial destruction in the form of huge fire or explosions. Genuine preventive measures can be applied effectively on identified issues to improve the life span of the total assets.
As the part of the earlier detection of the issues our trained inspectors are always being vigilant to score the dynamic results. Interface technical inspection strongly believes that our inspection team can also be an asset to our clients for the assessment of the integrity of their asset.
Modern and sophisticated testing and inspection procedures are employed to ascertain whether precision-engineered products are built to the exacting standards to which these are designed and modeled. Advanced inspection methods are also employed to check if engineering installations in industries like oil and gas and construction comply with the specifications to which these are to be built.
Some of the advanced inspection services offered by specialist inspection service providers are listed below:
- Ferrite Test
- Vacuum Box Testing
- Holiday Testing
- Positive Material Identification
- Inspection Services
- Portable Hardness Test
The benefits of advanced inspection
A competent advanced inspection service provider is a must to ensure that the inspections are carried out thoroughly and performed according to specifications. To assure the quality of inspections, the service providers should not only be equipped with the right equipments but also with well qualified and trained inspectors who are able to interpret the reports accurately and provide effective solutions when necessary.
Heat treatment is a process to achieve the required physical and mechanical properties for which the part will be used.. Heat treatment is a metallurgical application for relieving the stress after welding, hardening and softening the material according to requirement for its end use. There are many types of heat treatment processes that are in practice namely annealing, tempering and quenching, case hardening, precipitation hardening, post weld heat treatment, preheating etc.
Pre Heating
When welding some base materials and for some service conditions, preheating and/or post weld heat treatment may be a requirement.
Post Weld Heat Treatment Services(PWHT)
Post Weld Heat Treatment Services is defined as the stress relieving method after welding to improve the mechanical and chemical properties of welds. There are different ways of performing PWHT like local heat treatment and furnace heat treatment. We have skilled and highly experienced personnel available to perform Heat Treatment.
Interface Technical Inspection firmly recognizes the increasing demand of NDT in the various spheres of industry. ITI provides its services in all industrial sectors as well as infrastructure development projects.Interface Technical Inspection technical team under the leadership of Mr. Abdulla Abdul Majeed (ASNT/ACCP LEVEL III) set out a training and certification wing to provide systematic training to its inspectors as well as the personnel belonging to similar service providing companies in accordance with SNT-TC 1A.
Our skilled, qualified and experienced instructors are always available to conduct the class room lecturing as part of the certification program.
